Management letters after the opinion is signed
How to turn control observations into next-year improvements without treating every comment as a crisis.
A management letter is not another opinion. It records observations that did not prevent issuance of the auditor’s report but still deserve attention before the next cycle.
Rank items by who can fix them. Bank reconciliation timing often sits with accounting; vendor master changes may need IT and procurement together.
Assign owners and target dates in a simple tracker. When the same finding reappears two years running, lenders and boards notice—even if the financial statements remain fairly stated.
Use the closing meeting to clarify wording. Precise descriptions of the control gap make remediation cheaper than debating vague language months later.
